In keeping with tradition here in the UK I’m going to proclaim my undying love for snow and demand a white Christmas, then in a couple of days I’m going to announce that in fact I detest snow and wish it would go away because really it just makes walking anywhere really damn difficult and it’s also FREEZING COLD!!!

So yeah, here’s part one of that tradition:

In other uni based news, making a sound design wiki related to retro arcade sound effects and music is really difficult as the subject is nigh-on undocumented in terms of how they decided how they wanted the sounds to… err… sound. After spending many millions of hours looking for literature on the subject our group has managed to throw something together and hopefully we’ll get a decent enough mark for it. I must admit though, having spent hours listening to different arcade music riffs and sound effects, I find myself yearning for gaming ‘like it used to be’. A time when things were a lot simpler, where programmers laughed in your face as you died for the 14th time on the second level instead of coding in some lame difficulty setting where all the enemies suddenly have a severe case of the mong. The mainstream market for ‘casual gamers’ irritates me to no end; on one hand they’re keeping the industry afloat, there’s no doubt about it, but on the other hand games have had to be dumbed down something shocking to accommodate them. I’d like to see what nuclear reaction of rage would occur if you gave one of those Wii Fit mums a copy of Castlevania 2 and told them they had to complete it. Or better yet, give one of those bratty Call of Duty kids a copy of Zelda: Links Awakening and watch as their face contorts with pure anger because they can’t predator missile the boss that just handed their ass to them on an 8bit plate, or because they actually have to solve puzzles instead of run through the linear corridors of ‘interactive cinema’ they so know and love.

You casual gamers are also killing the PC games market with your Xbox 720′s and Turdstations. Thanks for hogging ALL THE CHRISTMAS RELEASES while we PC users have to wait for the publishers to stop wiping their dirty behinds with £100 notes and command the developers to make a rubbish port.

Ugh, rant rant rant.

That there new Harry Potter film was pretty awesome, saw it with mah Sophie when I was back in Northern Ireland last weekend. Helen Bonham-Carter will never be forgiven for killing Dobby. Never ever. Also, Harry has quite the lack of 6 pack in this movie much to the disappointment of absolutely nobody. The cgi was pleasing to my eyes and Hagrid’s bike is now on my Christmas list. A lot of people died in it though; I think they did Mad Eye Moody an injustice by not letting us see how he died. You just know he screamed something hilarious in his final moments.

It’s good to know that our government thinks so much of us that they want to blast us with radiation every time we want to get on a plane. Come to think of it, I fly regularly between Newcastle and Belfast so (and God forbid it should be introduced at both airports) I’ll be bathed in delicious cancer on a regular basis. Looks like I’m going to be getting the ferry from now on. Again I’m saying it; fan-fucking-tastic.

We aren’t even given the option of being sexually assaulted by security officers, unlike those lucky Americans. I’m SO jealous. It’s unsettling to think that in an effort to curb terrorism we, as citizens of our countries, are being treated as terrorists. In fact, we’re being treated worse than terrorists. I don’t see them flying over the Middle East spraying radiation at people and groping them indiscriminately and without warning, so why should we get the equivalent treatment when we want to fly.

Thanks a lot, Government. Now any time you’re ready, I’m waiting to pay some ridiculous uncapped University fees.
